Owen woke up this morning at 8:15...pretty good although he and I had a early morning playtime around 5 to 6ish. He still is sleeping very well considering all the traffic noise right above our heads. It sounds like we are literally living on an interstate because our room is right out front and the windows are over our beds. However, when you are tired you will sleep through anything!
Today the hotel kitchen is not open for lunch so they always plan an outing to a nearby resturaunt for the adoptive families. There are around 6 families, 3 from Norway, 2 from America, and 1 from Finland. We met outside around 11 am and climbed into two small vans. Let me say it was the hottest day it's been since we arrived, no air in the van, and it took about 20 min to get everyone loaded and ready to leave. Needless to say we all needed baths before we pulled onto the road and I started second guessing this adventure.
The drive was about 25-30 minutes up a HUGE mountainside that had the most amazing views I've ever seen on one side and the most piercing poverty on the other side. There was such a vast disparity between the sights we saw and I feel God must have placed it there as a gift. Up on top of the mountain we pulled off onto a dirt..no mud road and I was certain we would get stuck with these loaded down vans, but we tredged right through. I kept saying to myself, it's okay you're from Ky it's just like a hollar...it's just a hollar, no reason to panic. Then we turned into an oasis. This beautiful resturaunt amoung this amazing scenery with a playground for the children as well.
Our meal was delicious, although I spilled a whole glass of water on my lap and Owen. Addisyn buddied up with some friends, they are the other American family. I was so happy to see her playing outside with other children her age instead of inside this room. She begged us to let her zipline with the other kids...and we caved. She was so brave and loved it.
It was around 5 when we finally arrived back to the hotel and we were all ready to call it a day. We got moved into our new room....and all I can say is Awwwwwww. It has a balcony, no road noise, and a flat screen TV:) Chuck is doing some laundry. They will do it here, but we found out afterwards is $2/piece. Again...we're from Ky we can line dry our clothes and we'll be just fine:) Hope you enjoy the pictures. Owen did good through it all, but it was much too long of a day for him. I did manage to capture some smiles, however, he seems to smile through it all. Although, we finally got to hear some screams tonight when Chuck didn't get the bottle mixed up quick enough:) That's all for now...until tomorrow.
Wow! Ziplining! Go Addisyn! I'm glad to hear you have a new room! We are enjoying your blog and the pictures are so heartwarming! Love and Prayers!
ReplyDeleteOwen is absolutely adorable - love, love his chubby cheeks and Addisyn looks like she's embracing her big sister role. Your posts are bringing back a lot of happy memories from our time in Colombia (2 years ago already!)... thanks for sharing!

Are you kidding me, 8:00 I was counting on you all getting an early bird this time. Love the picture of hime with Addie, so sweet. I know you feel like groundhog day most of the time, but try to enjoy it. One day you will miss being there in a strange sort of way. Maybe cause it is a place that will hold such wonderful memories. Has Chuck started doing repairs on the bldg yet, I wondered how long before he started to climb the walls and need a project to do.
