So we had a conference call with Beth, our caseworker, last week and not alot to report. Things are slow right now in Colombia because of the holidays but here is what we do know. Our dossier was presented to Chiquitines Cali on Jan 4(or thereabout), which basically means it was handed to a receptionist. Every week an adoption team is suppose to meet which includes the orphanage director, ICBF liason, and social worker. They approve dossiers and notify our agency when we've been accepted by that orphanage and we officially begin the WAIT for referral of a child. Here's the catch, this usually happens in 60 days if they meet weekly as stated, but it appears they are not meeting as frequently so it is taking much longer. Hopefully we will get approved by March.
The wait for a referral is so exciting and filled with expectation but it is also tough. In Colombia it is not based on chronological order, so they chose the family and child that are the "best" match based on the criteria the family has selected. So, you could be matched within a month...or up to 2 years...YES I said 1 -24 months is the wait and that doesn't begin until your dossier has been approved! On average, however most people wait 9 mths. So...we could based on that average be in Colombia before the end of this year. That is our goal and prayer.
I also never updated we have been approved for one child under 3 years old OR two if siblings under age 5. This is what we are approved for, but might not be what we get. We are just leaving it in God's hands and praying He directs and orchestrates everything behind the scenes and matches us with the child(ren) He choses, not us.
