So we have started the process again...I should say we've been in the process for a while. This didn't happen overnight, an adoption never does. Adoption "accidents" never happen...they take months of thinking, planning, deciding, then commiting...that's just the first year. Then you plunge in and the paperwork begins which is a few more months, then you start the dreaded wait. We first started thinking about this in 2008 but Guatemala was closed, which is where our first daughter is from. We thought we'd wait it out, but those doors never opened. Then we discussed domestic adoption, foster-to-adopt, other international adoptions. We not only discussed, but researched, attended classes, prayed, and started taking steps. We continued to be compelled toward international adoption although we'd exhausted all options and thought there were no countries open that seem to "fit" for us. Finally, through one phone call with the right agency and right person we began to learn more about Colombian adoption with the Gladney Center for Adoption out of Texas. Everything began clicking and we knew this was the route for our family, so we did it....we took the plunge and sent in an application.
Our dossier (compiliation of all our adoption paperwork) was complete and approved incounty by the Gladney team and sent to Colombia right before Thanksgiving. We decided to wait to tell our families until Christmas just so it would be a nice suprise! With the holidays it's been slow processing our paperwork, but we do know it was presented to the Chiquitines in Cali and we are waiting on their approval. Once approved we've been told it could be on average 9 months, up to 15 mths. I know from experience, it's always longer...but I'm optimistic nonetheless and so much more patient this time around.
Thanks in advance to everyone who follows along with us and we covet your prayers for a speedy, calm, uneventful journey.
